I'm in a hotel in Montreal, just went for breakfast at my favourite place (Cora's). Tonight is the last day of the Kinetik Festival and it's been nothing short of amazing. I've met so many coolios people and seen some amazing performances this weekend. The venue rocks and this city rocks. Back home tomorrow to prepare for the Canadian tour:
http://www.ayria.com/2008touring/ayria-canada-tour-web.jpg

I announced this on stage when we played but now that I have a moment online, and it's been officially confirmed I can start spreading the word (and I'll ask that you feel free to do so too!) Ayria will be on the North American leg VNV Nation tour this July (all dates)! I'm obviously very excited for this opportunity and looking forward to getting out there again! I haven't had a chance to post the dates on myspace since I just got the itinerary, but here's a link to Ronan's post about the tour which includes all dates and ticket information:

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=6066468&blogId=487715936

Much love, I hope to see a lot of you out there at the Canadian and U.S. dates?
<3
Jennifer

So, I had my wisdom teeth out on Friday plus one filling done which was not fun. Still a bit sore and mostly just relaxing, watching t.v. and movies. I've been out of commission since Friday but it's been nice just doing nothing. I've started back on semi solid foods again despite loving my: Gingerale, ice cream and sherbert, apple sauce and yogurt diet. Anyways. I'm a big wuss and I hate going to the dentist but it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.

In January, I finished an Ayria cover version of Depeche Mode's "In Your Room" from their CD "Songs of Faith and Devotion".

Ayria - Cover of Depeche Mode's "In Your Room" (mp3 Clip).

Order the Compilation, see more details about it and hear clips from all the bands involved here: http://www.depeche-mode-tribute.com

I wanted to cover this song for nostalgic reasons. I remember loving this CD when it came out it was my favourite track off the CD so I'd blast it while in my bedroom. I connected with the lyrics in my own way with my room being my favourite place in the universe to be. When I was in my early teens, Depeche Mode came in concert and it ended up being the first "gothy" concert I had been to. I didn't even know that Depeche Mode were "goth", but I remember being overwhelmed by how many girls in stripped tights were there and the experience of seeing Depeche Mode live and them performing that song was overwhelming and amazing. Anyways, the memories of that song and how it reminded me of my old room and how much time I spent there has inspired me to post pics and show a piece of my world. I still spend lots of time in my room. It's the space that I write in, record in, surround myself with the stuff that I love plus the rest of my crap:

NOTE: I'VE POSTED THESE PICS BEFORE BUT APPARENTLY POSTED ABOUT THE COMP PRE-MATURELY. HERE'S THE CONTEXT NOW, AND WHY I POSTED THESE PICS. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE DUPLICATE PICS ;)

Here's my space where I write my songs (messy desk):

Here's me recording the Depeche Mode cover in that space:

Just for fun, here's my "Bling Shelf". Yep, I have a bling shelf in my room. It's important to surround yourself with things that make you happy ;)

This is a print that I bought. It called out to me and also makes me happy:

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:
AYRIA is featured on massive "Alfa Matrix re:covered - a tribute to Depeche Mode" 2CD "Alfa Matrix re:covered - a tribute to Depeche Mode" is the title of a brand new massive double CD DEPECHE MODE tribute compilation which will be released in May 2009.
End of year 2008 meme thing

    <lj:music>The Organ - Grab That Gun</lj:music>

Sorry I didn't actually answer some of the questions you guys asked me! I got caught up in family Christmas stuff but I found a different meme and just did it on New Year's day. This seems to be 2 different ones smooshed together to make up 100 questions. Kind of long and but I wanted to do it! :)

1. Was 2008 a good year for you?
Yes, It actually was! After 2007 being one of the worst years of my life, 2008 was a welcome change. The year started out kind of slow though. I went full time at my job here in Toronto in January, saved up some cash over the winter by working while Seb and I also finished production, Joe and I finished up the vocal recording and Amelia and I finished all the design of "Hearts For Bullets". 2008 started slow in comparison to 2007's touring attack with 53 shows that we played in the U.S.A., Poland, Germany and the UK. Basically, In 2008, I vowed to not book any shows (they take a lot of work to plan) until my CD "Hearts For Bullets" was finished so I could focus. Seb and I nailed it shut in May 2008. So, "The Gun Song" EP was released in March 2008 and the full CD on September 12th 2008. I don't really remember summer, for some reason. I guess I was busy searching for a keyboardist (Jeff! YAY!) and was prepping the release and merc for the upcoming Immortal tour USA leg where I was gone from September - Mid December.

2. What was your favourite moment of the year?

3. What was your least favourite moment of the year?
I'll do days:
July 28th, October 21st, November 3rd. But if these days were my worst, then this year was really not that bad at all!

4. What are your plans for 2009?
BIG THINGS

5. What countries did you visit?
Surprisingly, just the U.S.A.

6. What date in 2008 will remain etched in your memory?
I have a few:
May 15th when I FINALLY got to see Nitzer Ebb live in Montreal!
September 12th
Oct 7th (YAY S.F.!)
November 22nd when 2 of my best friends got married
November 27th
Dec 5th (YAY Atlanta!)

7. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
The "Hearts For Bullets" CD

8. What was your biggest failure?
I don't know. I'd like to think that I didn't really "fail" at stuff this year. Can't I have that? One year fail free? ;)

9. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Hahaha. Yes. Only while on tour though! I suffered fever, loss of voice, various colds and coughs, etc. intermittently from October 14th - December 14th

10. What was the best thing you bought?
My TUK platform shoes, my Tripp capris pants (both in L.A.). oh and my iPhone as my Christmas present to myself.

11. What was the best thing someone gave you?
- A chance to do something important.
- temporary tattoos
- bling
- encouragement

12. Where did most of your money go?
Tour merchandise + hotels + gas + flights + food!

13. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Haha.. the tour.

14. What songs will always remind you of 2008? (good or bad)
Some of these are old songs.. but that's not the point:
- "You'll find a way" by Santogold
- "Humanitarianism" by Zeigeist.
- "Payroll" Nitzer Ebb
- "Bad List" Ayria
- The Presets "New Sky" and "If I know you"
- And One "Military Fashion Show"
- ALL Cruxshadow & I:Scintilla songs

15. Compared to this time last year are you:
a) Fatter or thinner? I think I'm thinner. Maybe the same.. not sure I also have bigger muscles! I want to keep working on those in 2009 as I discovered I love lifting weights!
b) Happier or sadder? I am happier now. Definitely.
c) Richer or poorer? Richer because of the full time job. I was able to put away some savings.

16. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Rollerblade! I didn't break mine out once this summer and I have no idea why I didn't!
Read (catching up now!)
Let my guard down and make it easier to let people in (yeah, I know WHAA!).
Maybe wished I'd stepped back from the music a bit last winter/spring for a second to absorb the world and people around me. I stress and get consumed with things.
Go out more with friends!!

17. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Stress out.

18. How will you be spending Christmas?
Visiting family. It's over now pretty much. Back to Toronto now.

19. Which online friends did you meet for the first time?
Sooo many!

20. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Define love. I connected deeply with people and met lots of new friends that I love. So, yes!

22. What was your favourite TV show?
Dexter, The Office & Battle Star Galactica

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. I don't hate anyone. I didn't hate anyone last year either.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Zeigeist & Santogold

26. What did you want and get?
Nothing actually. Nothing I can think of?

27. What did you want and not get?
Not sure. I'm grateful for what I have right now.

28. What was your favourite film this year?
Tropic Thunder, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Other Boleyn Girl.. man, I'm totally blanking on what all I watched this year! I missed about 3 months of movie watching and remembering earlier this year is hard with my headache!

29. What did you do on your birthday?
Had a pretty pink princess unicorn party with pink drinks, pink straws and the most disgustingly pink cake you could ever imagine eating... pretty much the same thing I do every year.

30. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
I don't know. 2008 was pretty satisfying? Ok, like seriously.. what are you asking me?

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
80's electro punk princess meets anime glamour girl + my new addition: fake tattoos!!

32. What kept you sane?
Mikey (my drummer) & Music and that's pretty much it.

33. Which political issue stirred you the most?
The U.S. election actually, and gay rights.

35. Who did you miss?
My dad.

36. Did you treat somebody badly in 2008?
Yes.

37. Did somebody treat you badly in 2008?
Yes.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year?
- Life is way too short to have any regrets or fears to do the things that will make you truely happy.
- Prescription liquid codeine should NOT be shared, and dosage is NOT the same as Nyquil.. yeah. That was a rough morning.

39. What would you like to have in 2009 that you didn't have in 2008?
- Patience!
- A puppy.. but it's unfair to get one now since I tour so much.
- a six pack of abs! I'll work on it...look out! ;)

40. How many one night stands?
None.

41. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year...

From my own writings because I poured so much into them this past year.. It really only makes sense.
"All you get from this moment, is all you gave to your past"
"I've never wanted, something so blindly. How does on comprehend dissatisfaction with the unknown? I've been bound too long to this confining shell like a tiny hell that can't calm this wrestles mind. My blood pulses, fuels desire. I've left all behind, the winds have changed and there is no way back. Why can't you see, this all will fall. This microcosm is not eternal. My thirst will not subside, I'd rather face the storm and get ripped open wide so my insect eyes will see this wretched world for all it hides"

42. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
I have 2 on my forehead. One from going down a big slide backwards, and slicing my forehead right in the middle. The other one above my right eyebrow (which is why I can only raise my left eyebrow), was when I was 7 or 8 and I ran and belly flopped onto our sofa and hit the corner of our speakers with my eyebrow.

43. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
Very bright smurf blue paint. I love pink but bright blue walls also make me happy.

44.
Just sharing a link to a blog from my close friend DestroyX (Angelspit) who was the mastermind behind the artwork for both of the 2008 Ayria releases: "The Gun Song" EP and "Hearts For Bullets" CD. It's really cool! She explains her artisitc process for creating the art work for "The Gun Song" EP based on some inspirational material provided by me, the overall image of Ayria, and of course, the music. I feel she was able to combine and capture all elements so perfectly through her art. I'm waiting for part two, where she deconstructs the elaborate design for the full CD "Hearts For Bullets".

After 3 long months through the entire U.S.A. with the Cruxshadows and I:Scintilla, I arrived back back home last Thursday night and then finally went to sleep. I don't remember much of Friday, then I went out on Saturday to Queen Street and also braved the mall just to get out. I bought myself a post tour/Christmas gift which was an iPone and I absolutely love it! It puts my 3 year old crappy (pink) Samsung to shame ;) Being back for 3 days still hasn't been enough time to mentally and physically prepare myself for my first day back to work today but I somehow managed to get through. I thank the coffee. As for the tour, pics are starting to surface. I didn't actually have a camera so I rely on everyone else sending them to me, and they are being big slackers about doing so ;) I haven't done a full city by city recap but the last 3 weeks of tour got really fun actually, so much so that I didn't want to leave Florida or the Cruxshadows after our big group farewell dinner in Tallahassee last week. It was so bitter sweet to end the tour. Favourite cities from the last month of tour included: Cincinatti, NYC, Charlottesville, Raleigh, all of Florida and the big winner: ATLANTA!! Where did all you people come from! Huge crowd. There were other really fun cities in there of course but these ones are sticking in my head right now.

For pics, there's a newly created Ayria group on FLICKR that's starting to grow quite rapidly with pics if you want to check out or add pics it would be muchly appreciated:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/ayria

Lastly, one other "news" thing I wanted to mention on here about a problem with the "Hearts For Bullets" CD on iTunes for those of you who like to purchase music digitally:

Unfortunately, for reasons I'm not totally clear on, there has been a problem with the encoding of the recently released Ayria album "Hearts For Bullets" specifically on iTunes for digital download. This was brought to my attention recently by fans attempting to purchase the CD through iTunes. The first 5 tracks are pretty much all static both in the preview of the songs and when you purchase the songs or full CD (obviously not how they should sound!). I'm really sorry for this guys! It's a problem out of my control at the moment BUT, my label Alfa Matrix has contacted and are working with iTunes to resolve this issue to get the songs fixed. Unfortunately, the turn around time isn't that quick for things like this so it could be another week or so. I appreciate everyone contacting me and my label about this, and again, I apologize if you've had issues trying to get a refund from iTunes. You can contact my label at info@alfa-matrix.com for further general questions or issues.

Thanks again for everyone's continued support of me and my music and for purchasing my music legally so that I can continue doing what I love. Making the music.
Much love,
Jennifer
AYRIA

Rainy day in Chicago..

I am in Chicago right now! Mike and I went for a sushi lunch and then to Starbucks, all which is near our hotel here in the Lincoln Park area. I am ALMOST recovered from my sickness. I slept 10 hours last night and my voice is almost totally back. This is good since we have a show in Columbus, Ohio tomorrow and then Detroit the next day (Hi Canada! I'll wave at you across the lake as this will be the closest stop to home I've been in two months! Any Toronto poeple thinking of coming?). I'm debating going out tonight to neo or not. I'm not sure it's worth risking a relapse at this point but there are a few people I'd like to see out!

Anyways, I'm really looking forward to the next 4-5 shows, although there are rumours that the Louisville, KY show has been cancelled. I have no idea if this is the case or not.

a few more pics below! I've been getting pics from people in random order so these are from scattered dates. Jeff's putting together some from the last month so I'll post more good ones. I don't like how small LJ makes these, but oh well ;)

Joey getting his chest signed by Mike.

Brunch with everyone in S.F.

I want YOU!

Halloween in Milwaukee..
Wow, it's crazy being in America during the U.S. election and not being able to be part of it at all! Madness on the T.V. I tell you.

So, I'm unfortunately very, very sick. I almost cancelled a show last night due to having no voice at all. It was terrifying! I pushed through and somehow did a show (I thank Rogue for his magic steam machine and great pharmacy recommendations) but now I'm completely drained of all energy, drugged up, and planning to sleep the day away in this Omaha hotel room.

Before I crash, here’s 6 current songs that I’d recommend to anyone with similar tastes in music as me. I’ve been listening to these a lot in the van and I like sharing!
1. Humanitarianism – Zeitgeist (this is my current favourite song)
2. Wait For You – Hadouken!
3. Boxed – Jabberwock
4. I Never Said – Kloq
5. Fail – Everything Goes Cold
6. You’ll Find A Way – Santogold (thanks Blepharisma!)

I need more new music though! I’m bored of my iPod right now so recommendations would be great!

Tour Blog Part 4: Texas, New Orleans, etc.

On our way to Texas, we stopped to play Phoenix (Tempe) which is always a good stop for us and we had a great time, and then Albuquerque (which was surprisingly an AMAZING show having never played there before) I bought these really cute new shoes in Hollywood and I braved them onstage in Albuquerque despite the extreme platform high heels to them and they were just awesome! I just loved my outfit that night. Felt right. I’ll have to wear it again and I know it seems weird to say, I just did. I got to meet Mr. Tommy T who I know through mutual friends and who is apparently a huge Ayria fan! Everyone was so nice in both the above cities.

Next stop, one of my most played states: Texas! I LOVE this state. I love the people, the weather and the guacamole! We played most of the same venues that we hit with Combichrist when we supported them last August and it was great to see our turnout increase even more and to see a lot of familiar faces at the shows. I don’t really want to write a novel about the past two weeks but basically, the highlights included:

•	playing the Church in Dallas, which is just an amazing venue to play and honestly, some very attractive people were in attendance.. ahem
•	The energy of the San Antonio crowd (hi S.A. Jeremy! ;)
•	Getting to have a “pool day” in San Antonio with Jessica, etc. with our make shift swim up bar (thanks Vince from I:Scintilla for the fuzzy navels ;)
•	The entire tour of 17 people going to Six Flags for the day, eating green funnel cake and not surprisingly, not feeling well afterwards
•	Celebrating Brittany’s (I:Scintilla) birthday in style with a huge Mexican dinner out with everyone, and going to a Coyote Ugly bar, jumping up on the bar and dancing to “Smack my bitch up”
•	getting to Houston again and seeing Naikia and company (you guys absolutely rock!).. unfortunately also having some of the worst sound problems ever! (sorry crowd!)
•	Playing Elysium in Austin, getting to sneak off to my favourite little vegetarian Asian fusion tea shop by myself and enjoy some amazing chai tea and food.
•	Being put up at the friggin Hilton in Austin, nicest hotel EVER!
•	Finally last night in College Station; playing an outdoor venue and freezing our asses off but loving the crowd and every minute of it.

In this leg of the tour, we also played New Orleans. It was my first time there and I unfortunately didn’t get to see all it has to offer since we had back to back shows these past 5 days. But it seemed like a place I’d like to go back for the real experience. The promoter made us Jambalaya! Yummy Yay!

I have two weeks left on the tour before my 10 day hiatus for Joe and Steph’s wedding.
Tour Recap Part 3: Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles

I’ve always loved Seattle and this city will always hold a special place in my heart. I almost moved out there in 2003/2004. Plus my Drummer Mike is from there so we’ve seen all the best this city has to offer! We pulled into Seattle on a night off. Went up to Broadway and got some delicious and cheap sushi with I:Scintilla, and my good friends Mike and Amy. We had split from the Cruxshadows at this point since we had places to stay. Then I actually broke off from everyone (ok, Jeff my keyboardist came too ;) to go stay with Mike and Amy. As much as I love everyone on the tour, it’s always nice to get some time to myself to visit friends. The next morning Amy made the most amazing omelets with fresh spinach for us! We spent the day running around doing errands, picking up stuff, then going back to Broadway for Pho, and finally hitting up the Mercury for a night of clubbing. This is the first night of the tour I feel I let loose. I think we all did. All 3 bands came out and had a really fun night. Good times.

The show the next night in Seattle was amazing. The crowd there keeps getting better and better for us. It was awesome to see some of my friends there at the show too. The set went over really well, especially the new stuff.

The next day was really tough to say goodbye to Seattle but luckily Mike and Amy came with us to Portland so I rode with them. The Fez Ballroom is a great venue to play. The backstage room was huge and I’ve been friends with the promoter Derrek for a while now too. Again, I feel like a broken record gushing over how awesome the crowd was, but it’s true. I met some amazing people that night too as well as got to see a lot of familiar faces too. Derrek took me out for an amazing latte too (yay!) and we reminisced about him putting on one of the first ever Ayria shows. Then we stayed at the Jupiter which is a crazy rock star oriented hotel that’s obviously for bands… but anyways, we woke up super early to do the insane drive to San Francisco simply for the reason to hit up Death Guild on that Monday night. We did it! Brittany (I:scintilla) and I actually changed and did makeup in the van while driving and we pulled up in the parking lot about 11:00 pm to be greeted by dtk, structurefall, rabbitron and headed in for another night of fun. Ok, so the pattern is starting to look like we’ve been clubbing a lot. We haven’t. It’s something specific to the West Coast for me. I have a lot of people I want to see out there and it just so happens it’s easiest to do by going out to clubs. Anyways, the next day was a show day at the DNA lounge and I won’t go into any details since that was pretty much covered in my last post (yeah, the S.F. Ayria cheering squad). The next day, we had off again and we mainly just hung around and relaxed. Then I broke off from the group again and structurefall took me out for an AMAZING seafood dinner because he is awesome like that. It was so elaborate and delicious that I could barely move afterwards. It was funny because the place was super classy and all I have is tour clothes so I tried to class it up by adding heels.. kinda worked, not really.

Then we got the call that our L.A. show for the next night was cancelled since the venue shut down unexpectedly.. so that evening was stressful. But magically, by the next day, almost ALL promoters in L.A. got together to make this show work! I’ll be honest. The place we played had a less than desirable sound set up, and the weirdest stage ever but the energy of the crowd made this make-shift show work still! We were just so happy the show didn’t get cancelled! Luckily, while we were there, they actually arranged a second show in Hollywood for the following Monday night since the original all ages plan fell through for the first show. The second venue was the Knitting Factory right on Hollywood Blvd. and you would never believe that a show announced with 3 days of online promotion only would do so well! It was amazing. While in Hollywood, I shopped way more than I should have. I’m just lucky the stores rejected my Canadian debit card! I’m still nervous to see the credit card bill though. Anyways. I scored some AWESOME Shoes that I later wore onstage in New Mexico.. I also hung out with my friend Noah in Hollywood who took us out for sushi.

So between the 2 L.A. shows, we played in San Diego. I’d never played there before. We had fun but due to an unexpected city curfew, all bands had to be off stage by 11 pm, which meant, our set was cut in half pretty much. The next day, us and I:scintilla hung out with friends of Mike’s who took us to the beautiful San Diego beaches were we went swimming in the Pacific ocean. It’s my goal to go swimming in every ocean! So far I’m at two. Haha ;)

Ok, after our swimming adventures, we head back up to Hollywood and ended up out at Bar Sinister. This club is cute. It’s where I had my first Ayria L.A. show ever, back in 2004. We danced and had fun. We mingled, met people and promoted the show that would be happening at the Knitting Factory.

The next morning after the show, we left L.A. signaling the end of my West Coast visit unfortunately. But now we are on to other adventures we just played Phoenix and New Mexico and now we have arrived in San Antonio TEXAS where we have a show tonight… more to come with pics soon..

Hollywood California

I have a day off here. This is dangerous. I've spent way too much money on way too many awesome things here. I bought new shoes, 2 belts with crazy bling.. more blinged bracelets, a jacket thing, an awesome white strappy top, new perfume and some more MAC makeup. I justify this spending by saying to myself "when will I ever be in Hollywood again!?" This argument, although flimsy, works just fine for me! Right now, we are in a really awesome hotel right near tomorrow's venue the Knitting Factory on Hollywood Boulavard and after clubbing at Bar Sinister last night and shopping all day today, I just want to get in my jammies and relax for tonight.

Anyways, I'm still working on an updated post for the past few shows but right now, I really have to recap the San Francisco experience. My amazing S.F. peeps actually put together an Ayria cheering squad for the show. Lead by captain Starr, they made amazing sparkly shirts, pom-poms and banners and I was so stunned by their awesomeness, that I was left speechless. Needless to say, they won the tour. I need to send the team a care package of merch when I get the chance. They rule. Here's pictures:

More pics from the tour are posted in my Flickr gallery (which I'm just starting so it will grow) here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/31292129@N03/sets/72157607982301779/

San Francisco Awesomeness!:::

Lastly, here's the flyer for our LAST MINUTE Hollywood show tomorrow night:
